This is a workshop I do when I onboard all of my new clients. The keywords workshop help me figure out what they want to see in their brand, or how they perceive it. This workshop helps me figure out who their customers see the brand, and who they are. I’ll use that information to apply to my designs.
The first thing I do is I take a triangle and divided it into five equal parts. I ask them, who their ideal customer is, and to go in depth as they can. Together we brainstorm this imaginary person. The goal is to identify who that person is by character traits. There are many different ones, examples include:
What profession are they in? What is their age group? How much money do they make in a year? What is their disposable income? Are they local or international? Are they male or female, or is the brand unisex? Where do they live? What are their interests or hobbies? Are they seeing this in-store or online?
You can go really in depth with this, but I try and identify five traits that really carve out who this person is that’s seeing the brand. By doing this I’ve added another layer of strategy to their brand and it will translate in the designs I prepare for them when we get to that point.
As always I put this in the presentation deck so they have it as a blueprint when viewing my finished designs.
At this point, after doing the Keywords and Ideal Niche, I have quite a bit of information to go by and I move onto the next exercise which I’ll be getting into on my next post, Competitive Analysis.
There you go! That’s part 2 of my 3 part series for establishing a strategy first process for my clients. Stay tuned for the next one! If you like how I work, feel to contact me. I’d love to go over your ideas!
